5 reasons why you might not be reaching your goals (& solutions, of course!)

It's the end of the first month of January 2022.

How was your first month of the year?

I know a lot of people made resolutions for the new year for their health, but sadly, statistics show 80% of people abandon their goals by February.

Why though?

I don't have all the answers to life (😂...please tell me if you do! I'd love to know) but having worked as a fitness coach to women from all around the world, ages ranging from 24 to 80, each unique in their experiences & goals, I've learned a few things about why...

I hope that by sharing some of these, you might better understand yourself, so you can make more empowered decisions for your own health goals --whether you're conquering your 2022 goals or you've dropped them like a hot potato. 🥔

So here are some reasons most people quit on their goals, not in order of importance or frequency, & what to do instead:

1. Their why for change isn't strong enough. If it's just "nice" for you to gain strength or lose weight or be healthier, you probably won't get there. Each person who's reached a significant goal had a fire to change.

Whatever your reason for changing, make it super important to you.

2. Their goals aren't realistic. It's great to have big goals, but you've got to break them down into smaller pieces to chew on. Otherwise, you'll get frustrated with your progress, & give up because you're not where you think you should be when you think you should be there.

Set small, realistic goals & translate them into daily actions you can practically do.

3. They focus more on their struggles & problems rather than looking for solutions. We humans all love to identify with our problems; we get attached to them like they're our little babies. I do it as well. But where our focus goes, our energy grows. Yes, we must acknowledge & accept our weak areas, but that's only half of the equation.

We also must find the solution & take action on it if we want to change.

4. Their expectations of the process don't match reality. CHANGE IS HARD. Moving from the familiar to the unfamiliar is scary. You can totally enjoy the process & get excited about the goal (yes to that!), but sometimes growth is simply difficult. If you set a health goal & expect change without discomfort, you'll quit when it gets challenging.

Change is difficult, & it's always the unexpected thing that trips us up, but the end result is absolutely worth the effort. You're worth the effort.

5. They don't set their future selves up for success. Not having a plan, some structure, & loads of support, is like trying to reach a new destination without a map. Most people believe so positively that they can just wing it & figure it out as they go along. Having a map, though, makes it so much easier, & so much faster. You still got to read it & apply it to where you are, but it saves you from getting lost in the woods.

Set your environment & yourself up for success by having structure, support, & a strategy in place.

What do you think are some reasons we fail to reach our goals, either from your own experience or observations?
